About Simple Roofing Co

Texas does not license roofers. Here is what we give you instead.

Simple Roofing Co is a Houston roofing and exterior contractor working a 25 mile radius out of 1334 Brittmoore Road. We are small on purpose, we run our own crews, and we price every job Cost Plus, which means you see the supplier invoice.

The thing nobody tells Houston homeowners

Texas does not license roofing contractors. There is no state roofing license, no state exam, and no state board you can check a roofer against before you let them on your house. Anyone with a truck and a ladder can print a card that says roofing contractor and it is entirely legal.

That single fact explains most of what is wrong with this industry here. It is why storm chasers appear in your neighborhood within a week of hail. It is why a homeowner who does everything right can still end up with a roof that fails in four years and a company that no longer answers the phone.

It is also why we built the business the way we did. If there is no license to prove we are legitimate, the proof has to be documents you can actually verify.

What you can check on us, before you hire us:

  • Our certificate of insurance, general liability and workers' compensation, sent direct from the carrier rather than as a PDF we typed
  • The supplier invoice on your job, with the supplier's own phone number on it
  • The permit, filed under our name with your city, which is public record
  • Our Google reviews, which we do not filter or gate

How we actually work

The inspection is free and it is genuinely free

We photograph the roof, write up what we find, and send it to you whether or not you hire us. If the honest answer is that your roof has six good years left, that is what the report will say. We would rather be the company you call in six years than the company that sold you a roof you did not need.

We do not knock doors after a storm

Not once. If someone appears at your door claiming to be from Simple Roofing Co, they are not. Our work comes from referrals, from search, and from homeowners who found the cost report and wanted the numbers explained.

We will not touch your insurance claim

Under Texas Insurance Code chapter 4102, a contractor cannot act as a public adjuster on a job they are also going to perform. No filing it for you, no negotiating it, no arguing policy language on your behalf. A lot of Houston roofers do all three. It is against the law, and when it goes wrong it is the homeowner holding the claim.

What we can do is document the damage properly so that you, or a licensed public adjuster you hire separately, have something to work with. The full explanation is here.

We use Tamko shingles

Heritage for most jobs, Storm Fighter Flex where a homeowner wants the Class 4 impact rating, Titan XT at the premium end. Standardising on one manufacturer means our crews know the install spec cold and the warranty chain stays clean.

Roofing first, and then everything next to it

We started on roofs and most of our work is still roofs. The list grew because Houston houses do not fail politely. The same rain that gets through a failed pipe boot rots the fascia, soaks the soffit and stains the ceiling below, and sending a homeowner to three different contractors to fix one problem never made sense to us. Here is the full list.

Common Questions

How long have you been roofing in Houston?

Long enough to have seen what the lump sum model does to homeowners here, which is why we do not use it. Ask us on the inspection and we will walk you through recent jobs in your area.

Are you licensed?

Texas does not issue a roofing contractor license, so no roofer in this state can honestly say yes to that question. We are insured, we pull permits under our own name, and we hand you the documents. Be careful with any Houston roofer who claims a state license, because there is not one to hold.

Are you insured?

Yes, general liability and workers' compensation. Ask and we will have the carrier send the certificate to you directly, which is the only version worth trusting.

Do you subcontract the work?

We run our own crews on roofing. Where a job needs a licensed trade we do not hold, electrical for example, we say so up front rather than quietly subbing it.
