What is different about a Richmond roof

Historic structures

The older housing includes properties of real age, with board decking, true dimension framing, steeper pitches and deep porches at a much shallower pitch than the main roof. That porch is almost always where these houses leak, because it is shingled below the pitch shingles are rated for. It needs a low-slope material, not another repair.

New master-planned growth

The newer communities are first-generation builder roofs with the familiar profile: minimum ventilation, pipe boots failing around year ten, and flashing detailing done to a price. Check your builder warranty before paying for a repair on a young roof.

City or county
