Houston Hail & Wind History, 2016-2026
NOAA storm reports near each area we serve, counted and sourced.
Last updated 2026-10-09
A count of public National Weather Service storm reports near each area we serve, 2016 through 2026. This is a record of what NOAA logged in the area, not a record of any specific roof. Whether your roof was affected depends on your exact address, your roof's age and condition, and the shingle's resistance rating, none of which a county-wide report can tell you. A free inspection does.

Source and method
- Source. NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, bulk CSV files, years 2016 through 2026 (the current year through its latest published update), downloaded 2026-10-09.
- Counties. Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria, Galveston and Waller, Texas.
- Event types. Hail, Thunderstorm Wind, and High Wind.
- Area matching. NOAA records a latitude and longitude for each event, not a ZIP code or a neighborhood boundary. We matched each event to the nearest area by straight-line distance from that area's place centroid, counting it if it fell within 5 miles. Area centroids come from OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoder, which is a point for the named place, not a boundary -- two adjoining areas can share some of the same storm reports near their line, and a very large area (a whole city) is under-represented relative to a small, dense one.
- What this does not show. Whether hail or wind actually damaged any building, including yours. A NOAA report means a spotter, a trained observer, or radar estimated that size hail or that wind speed occurred near that point at that time.

Common Questions
Does this page tell me if my roof has hail damage?
No. It counts weather reports near your area, not damage to any building. Hail bruising and wind-lifted shingles have to be found on the roof itself, which is what the free inspection is for.
Why 5 miles and not my exact neighborhood?
NOAA reports a point, not a boundary, so we matched every event to the nearest area center within a stated radius. It is an approximation, and the methodology above says so plainly.
Where does the data come from?
NOAA's own Storm Events Database, a public federal dataset, downloaded directly and filtered to the six counties around Houston. Nothing on this page is estimated.
Not sure what any of this means for your roof?
Free inspection, photographed, with an honest answer on what the storm history near you actually means for your specific roof.
